While firearms have added a new
dimension to combat, a man working with two hands and two legs is
never outdated. I believe the use of double knives can be quite
effective in the hands of someone who knows how to employ them. And
that's true of martial arts in general -- I would not claim any one
school is superior to another. While I am not particularly
knowledgeable about the Filopino martial art you mention, I would
say that the utility of ANY martial art depends upon the level of
proficiency of the practitioner.
I believe the people you
mention are uninformed. I, myself, have heard that the use of double
knives is merely an extension of your hands. This, I can attest from
experience, is not true. With your fingers or hands, you do not
automatically disable an opponent. However, when wielding double
knives effectively, the result is definitive.
