I would agree that adding free
weights to your arms/ wrists during your form would not be a good
idea. Why? 1. It will lead to incorrect bio motor skill, 2. there is
more effective ways to develop strength and power for your form than
what you have suggested.
When you play the form, eg siu lum
tao, would have to developed the correct neuromuscular coordination
and good bio motor habits.
Imagine this and use some commone
sense? Think about how a baby who has no coordination and no skill
whatsoever. How does the baby gain the skills to do normal things
such as walking?
When a baby learns how to walk? It is a
gradual progress of course. Lets assume we added free weights to the
baby's ankles while he or she is in the process of learning to walk?
What do you will happen to the baby's walking skills? Remember all
great athletes and even masters of kung fu started equal as a baby
(without skills).
In all logical probablity, the baby would
walk pretty funny and develop poor neuromuscular coordination and
very poor bio motor skills which he or she would have a hard time of
correcting in his later stages of life.
This the reason why I
would advise that you stay away from this my friend. You can also
ask and research strength and conditioning specialists about this
subject.
From my point of view and experience, you are better
off learning the "correct" and "accurate" form and use your own
tension to develop strength and power behind your form.
I may
be wrong. I am sure Mr. Leung has his own opinion. Lets see what he
thinks.
